You’ve seen the kits at the supermarkets. You’ve seen the ads on tv. Can teeth whitening really be that easy and so readily available? Or is there a “best place” to head for getting this important and delicate process completed? Summit Family Dental has got you covered.
Multiple Ways To Whiten Teeth
With teeth whitening, there are multiple ways to complete this process. People are most familiar with bleaching, which is pretty common at dental offices, and there are a couple of ways to do it. We can bleach your teeth while you're in the chair in the office if you want instant results. It may take two or three applications - if a patient can tolerate it - to achieve the desired results. Afterward, we generally send you home with some touch-up trays so that you can bleach at home on your own if you like.
The next best way to bleach teeth is to get some custom-fit trays that we can make for you. We take some impressions of your teeth. After you go home and come back a couple of days later, we'll prepare them to begin the whitening process. You can compare them to Invisalign trays or retainers.
The Cost Of Teeth Whitening
The expensive part of bleaching is the upfront cost of making the trays. Option two is the bleach tubes, they're relatively inexpensive. Option three is the take-home white strips you see in the stores. It's a little more economical, but the in-house strips are a little stronger. One drawback of these is that if you get the bleach on your gum tissue, it can be very sensitive and you may be able to burn the gum tissue as it is not as resilient as the enamel of the tooth.
Professional VS In-Store
The question burning in your mind is, “Is it worth it going to a dental office like Summit Family Dental or heading to your local bulk store and purchasing their at-home kits? Is there a difference in quality?” The kits with the strips do work. However, it’s not as efficient as what you can get at our dental office. The percentage of bleach is stronger in our offices.
The other issue is the kit itself. It may not fit your mouth perfectly, causing gum damage. By coming into our offices, we can get you squared away with your personal, custom-fit kit ready for you to use.
